Evergreen Mangroves of Kerala — Guardians of the West Coast
The coastal ecosystem is the blue forest ecosystem. Mangroves are one of the productive and most valuable coastal ecosystems on earth which provide habitat for many different species of animals. Mangroves also provide numerous ecosystem services, benefits and opportunities for recreation and tourism. Conservation of the mangrove ecosystem is necessary because it is lost at an alarming rate. Recently, remote sensing technologies to assess deforestation rates of mangroves and also DNA barcoding of mangroves is done for its precise identification.
